Myanmar National Export Strategy 2nd Stakeholders’ Consultation, Yangon


Myanmar National Export Strategy, 2nd Stakeholders’ Consultation is being held from 1to 11 October 2013 at the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, with the cooperation of Ministry of Commerce and International Trade Centre. The opening ceremony was held on   1October 2013, and the design phase consultation is being held from 2 to 11 October by the sectoral consultation.
 Opening Ceremony
To the opening ceremony, H.E Dr. Pwint San, Deputy Minister for Ministry of Commerce, U Win Aung, President for UMFCCI, Director General for Department of Trade Promotion and personnel from Ministry of Commerce, personnel from International Trade Centre and relevant international organizations, stakeholders of National Export Strategy team, responsible persons from relevant Ministries and associations and others personnel concerned, total
over 250 people have attended the opening ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, H.E Dr. Pwint San, Deputy Minister for Ministry of Commerce, U Win Aung, President for UMFCCI, Ms. Irina Scheffmann, representative from the German donor organization GIZ, Mr. Darius Kurek,   Senior Officer for International Trade Centre delivered the opening address accordingly. After that, U Aung Soe, Deputy
Director General, Navigator of National Export Strategy presented the Response Paper and Orientations of the NES for Myanmar.
 
Current status of NES
There are (4) phases in the National Export Strategy as follows:
(1)             Pre engagement phase
(2)             Inspection phase
(3)             Design phase
(4)              Implementation phase
Now the design phase, the third one, will be implemented and sectoral consultations for priority sectors such as Rice, pulses & beans and oil seed crops, wood and wood based products and Tourism have already been held from 2 to 4 October 2013.

The first day of consultation
At the first day of consultation, discussed and analysied the following sessions:
(a)              Strategy design process and consultation’s objectives by ITC
(b)             Presentation and discussion on sector current structure and performance (ITC and team coordinator)
(c)              Revise the value chain map
(d)             Identify key stakeholders and support services
(e)              Validation of current export markets for the sector
(f)               Confirmation of distribution channels and buyers requirements for sector per current markets
(g)              Identification and confirmation of sector issues in the supply side
(h)             Elaboration of problem tree

The second day of consultation
At the Second day of consultation, discussed and analysied the following sessions by sector:
(a)   Identification and confirmation of sector issues in the Business environment
(b)   Elaboration of problem tree
(c)    Identification and confirmation of sector issues in the market entry
(d)   Elaboration of problem tree
(e)    Presentation of global trends and dynamics in the Global markets
(f)     Review of market trends and identification of market development options
(g)   Discussion and validation of ideas to improve the sector’s value chain

The third day of consultation
 At the Third day of consultation, discussed and analysied the following sessions:
(a)              Definition of sector vision and strategic objectives for the strategic orientations
(b)             Based on problem tree and strategic objectives, define the operational objectives of the strategy for the definition of strategy plan of action
(c)              Initiate the elaboration of activities to guide the future work of the sector strategy team for the definition of strategy plan of action
(d)             Presentation of next steps for NES by ITC

Program from 7 to 11 October
     Subsequently, consultations for fish and crustaceans sector team, textile and garment sector team, Robber sector team and Trade facilitation and logistics sector team will be held from 7 to 9 October and then trade financing sector team, trade information and promotion sector team, quality management sector team will be held from 10 to 11 October accordingly.
